Celaya Wine Cellar – La Roda (Albacete) – Eloy Celaya – Architect
“The project is based on the notion that architecture -and not only materials- should be reusable, surviving fads. In addition to technological innovation, cultural innovation is needed as well: new archetypes as to shape and usage. Thus, the natural model is taken as a reference. The starting dynamic growth system is developed in two directions: radial and concentric, as occurs with several plant structures. The project may be considered as a global structure, where all parts are closely interrelated: the overall construction is located beneath a single container which in turn houses another series of containers. This encapsulation system, used by nature, optimises the building’s volume. In addition, other sequences connect the ground with the sky: the roof starts at ground level rising to the sky, becoming transparent at the end.”
